Bubble Rock...
Recently one of our writers caught up with a few bands
including Bubble at Dragonfly here in Hollywood,
CA. Apparently she had a good time. Here's her take on
Bubble.
Introduced by their pal Donnie Popejoy with the volume
of a wrestling match, Buuuuuuuubbbbbbbbblllllllllleeee
was the middle band at
Dragonfly
on the first full day of the Governator's Term or do you
say Terminator's Govern?
The pre-show interview with leader, Share Pedersen
consisted of "I gotta go find my bass player!" So we
caught a little bit of the opening band - Millionaires
of San Diego. A heckler got the response of "You're
right! I've no talent at all!" from their lead singer
dressed in a pork pie hat, tattoos and little else.
Okaaayy.
Share, Bam, Luke and Brian are Bubble. Guitar, drums,
bass and another guitar are Bubble's machines. One of
LA's best bands promised a lot of new stuff from new CD,
Chapter 7, at this performance. That they did.
Shorter shag haircut on Share with a darker shade of
platinum and sporting fake fur for a fake autumn
evening, Vixen veteran, Ms. Pedersen and pals kicked it
off with 'Break Me' and our favorite 'Don't
Talk To Me'. Then came the newer tunes, 'I Hurt
Myself', 'Deadender', 'Kiss or Kill'
and 'Love Stains' pepper-ed with the familiar 'Black
Hole', 'I'm Alright Jack', and tied it up
with 'Big Top'.
The new songs are consistent with the standing fare from
Bubble. Strong clear hard guitars and drums. Sharp hooks
and spit out lyrics with edge and anger. Basics and
fundamentals. Integrity and credentials. Dedication and
delivery. (The new governor should be this good.)
Textures and waa waa pedals. A nice crowd of friends,
fans and peers packed in to the Dragonfly for an all too
short set, barely a half hour.
At the door, Tommy of Motochrist insisted we stay for
just one number by Joker Five Speed. We "been-there-and
done-that" and drove home. A short set of Bubble was
enough for anyone. For more Bubble info:
