MakeaStar.com Artist Testimonials

Check out what MakeaStar.com artists have said about us:

"The main reason for submitting the song is for the review and the review has being very useful.  Also, being so far from the U.S., it allows us to test our songs’ international appeal. We are currently talking with some publishers now and we were asked to place the song on a compilation CD set."

- Danah

"
What a great idea to get a true overall perspective because Fans and the Industry listen with different intentions and vote. And the review is definitely a valuable service. Of course, sometimes only the songwriter truly understands his intentions with the song, which is why the disclaimer MakeaStar gives before the review is so great."

- Triprocket

"My main point was to have an industry review. The contest comes as a plus. The review was an excellent guideline to point out my strengths and my (few) fields of improvement.

"
I thought it was great that you guys provide so much detail into so many aspects of songwriting. It really gives you great feedback on what your strengths are, as well as constructive criticism on areas to improve upon  and I really welcome that type of feedback.  I believe its a great service to the Indie artist to know what is working and what could be improved, from an industry standpoint
. I also like that you get to see the breakdown in the votes from industry and fans.  It can be very telling."

- Riddle The Sphinx

"
The contest is fun, and I’m very interested in getting my music heard by more people through the Internet.  I was also interested in the industry review – to hear a critique from someone who listens to a lot of music. I’m pleased with the outcome of both."

- McKinley Black

"
Personally I put more weight into the votes from the Industry. I say that only from the aspect that it's more likely to be a fair judge of the song's merits. Like the title of my song says, "More Felonies Than Friends", which means, I don't have a slew of pals to potentially pad my song along. The past two weeks I was able to virtually crush the competition in Industry votes with almost twice the votes of my competitors, yet they both had more Fan votes, but it was not enough to win. However, I feel (and hope) that most people in the end are going to vote for the best song regardless of if it's their friends or not. I value all votes but look more to the Industry votes for a gauge of where I truly stand. As someone who is looking to build industry contacts, this is very promising to me."

- Chillious

"I was very interested in getting a review which I think is incredible. I have never looked into my music to the degree that the reviewer looked in to mine. I completely understand what the reviewer was talking about, and it is only going to help me make better music! But the contest has been fun too"

- JASON (featuring Danja)

"The review was what we wanted and we thought it was excellent. It's not just a review it’s a very informative critique covering every aspect of the song, well worth it. And
it's a good idea to have both Fans and the Industry voting together as this balances things out a little."

- Zeth

"I had gotten a few reviews from industry, and a LOT from fans.  Honestly, I think I really wanted the professional viewpoint, but the contest added even more value and OPPORTUNITY."

- Tricia Kelly

"Being that the song was submitted as a rough mix, I am pleasantly surprised to get such good feedback, despite the lack of editing and mixing that still needs to be done. Although I was pretty much already aware of my song’s high and low points, I received some great advice from my review.  It’s always nice to hear comments about your music from someone who doesn’t know you.  My friends and family will always be supportive (at least I hope so!), but an industry stranger will tell you how it is.  Luckily, my ‘industry stranger’ was still very supportive!"

- Shannon Eileen

"Obviously the review is a great service for un-signed bands and the review system is great because you weed out the musicians that don’t take them selves seriously from the one’s that do."

- Guidance

"Well, every song's a winner when you add the review... and actually, it's more than a review; it's a critique in the best sense of the word. In a way it's good that we haven't finished our CD. It gave us confidence where we think it matters most: in the creative scene. And it criticized us in areas we know we can fix."

- Sugarstar

"I have lots of confidence in my music.  I was expecting to do well.  However, I've heard so many great artists at MakeaStar.com that I knew it would be no easy task. The reviews are very detailed and informative, which in turn gives me a good lead as to what is positive and what can be improved in my music.  There isn't anything else quite like it that I have found."

- Infinity's End

"I think the reviews are very good and gives you an honest reflection of one's view and opinion in the industry. Spending time in Nashville, I'm very familiar with industry reviews."

- Lynn King

"
The review service is a very valuable resource for musicians such as myself. I am very new to the music scene and it is so important to get feedback as I continue to grow as an artist and move in specific directions.

- Dayna Steele

"I
think MakeaStar.com's Industry review service is a wonderful idea. I think it is a great way to gain exposure and I believe that constructive criticism from people who are well respected within your industry can only be helpful."

- Jennifer Marks

"I think the review service is excellent for upcoming artists like myself. It is imperative to have some input from professionals on what you are doing right and what you need to improve on. It is so hard trying to get into this business, and I think you provide an excellent service to us “starving musicians”!."

- Lizzie Furnari

"It is always great to get feedback from industry professionals. They have the experience, they know what they are looking for and they’re who you have to impress to get your foot in the door. It is very hard to get in touch with these people so it is great that Make A Star offers a service like this."

"The initial reason we signed up with MakeaStar.com was for an Industry review of our songs. We weren't actually interested in the song contest. When Anthony (guitarist) and I read the review, the first thing we said was 'Wow, this guy knows his shit.' It was quite obvious from all the comments made by this MakeaStar.com reviewer, that this person was an Industry pro. In fact, the critique confirmed all the things we suspected on how we could improve the music. I also think it's important that Fans and Industry get equal power in voting. After all, there is no right or wrong in creating music, only how the music makes the audience feel. Industry pro's tend to look for things according to chart trends, in a very mechanical way; whereas your average listener just goes on gut instinct. It's nice to get equal voting power from both."

- Half the Earth

"It's a really good idea and we like that the criticism is constructive, helping bands and not discouraging them.  The Fan and Industry voting split is very fair. After all, one listener's opinion is just as important as the next.  The Industry is important to break an Artist, but at the end of the day it's the Fans that buy the records. "
